Developmental Therapist, Special Education Teacher
Lacey is a certified developmental therapist who has been in the field for over 15 years.
She graduated from Concordia University in 2016 with her Master of Education in Early Childhood, Curriculum & Instruction; and then went on to complete the ARC program in 2017, at Charter Oak State College, obtaining her Provisional Educator Certificate in Integrated Early Childhood/Special Education, Birth - Kindergarten.
Lacey was a preschool classroom teacher for almost a decade, beginning her career in 2009, working in both private and public school settings. In 2017, she ended her career in the classroom to become a service provider for her community, as a Developmental Therapist and Evaluator for an Early Intervention state-run program. Lacey has an extensive background working with children with special needs, including children with speech delays, behavioral concerns, and those diagnosed with ASD. She is trained in using teaching methods to correct behaviors or work towards a desired learning target, as well as teaching play skills, increasing attention span, language development, social skills, correcting challenging behaviors, following directions, sharing and turn-taking, joint attention, completing tasks, emotional regulation, self-help skills and more.
Lacey has hosted several workshops on topics such as 'teaching math & science in nature', 'the over-scheduled child', 'pedological innovations', and the 'importance of play'. She has also participated in the NAEYC (National Association of Education of Young Children) accreditation process two times, completing annual portfolios for over 100 children.
Lacey believes strongly in a play based approach to help children with difficulties or delays, as well as treating the child as a whole; physically, mentally, and emotionally. She is a homeschooling mom of 3, and seeks to help children and families in the community, throughout their journey in early development.
